Cynthia Morrison, the Member of Parliament for Agona West, has recounted the details of an alleged attack against her during a campaign event on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

Reports indicate that supporters of Chris Arthur, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Agona West, clashed with supporters of Morrison, who is now an Independent candidate, while campaigning in the same area. This confrontation resulted in injuries to four individuals, two of whom were shot.
In an interview on TV3’s New Day on October 28, Morrison did not explicitly label the incident as an assassination attempt. She mentioned that she did not hear any gunfire while sitting near the window during the event.
She explained, “Yesterday evening, we attended a program, and during it, I noticed a convoy approaching. I didn’t recognize the vehicle until it got closer and I saw Chris Arthur’s picture on it, indicating they were passing by.
“They went straight instead of using the left, and although there were many people on the road, I was focused on my activities. Near the end of my program, the police asked me to get back into the car because I had been standing on it, and just as I did, someone mentioned a gunshot.”
Morrison added, “I didn’t hear a gunshot because I was close to the window. After I got in, the police organized for us to leave.”
Upon returning, Morrison received a call from Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the leader of the NPP Caucus in Parliament, who alleged that one of his security personnel had shot Haruna Rashid, the Nasara Coordinator for the Agona West NPP Constituency.
Morrison denied these claims and urged Afenyo-Markin to gather information from the police before making such accusations.
“While I was on my way to Swedru, he called to ask about the situation. I told him I was not in Swedru yet. He claimed that my security had shot the Nasara Coordinator. I asked how that could be possible. He said if it wasn’t my security, it must have been someone from my team. I insisted that he should verify with the police before jumping to conclusions,” she stated.
Morrison confirmed that four individuals were injured and that the police are currently investigating the matter.
