Global oil trading giant Vitol has facilitated the sale of aviation fuel from the $20 billion Dangote Petroleum Refinery to a Bulk Import, Distribution, and Export Company (BIDEC) in Ghana.
This milestone highlights the Dangote Refinery’s growing role as a leading supplier of refined petroleum products in West Africa. The transaction not only bolsters regional energy trade but also addresses the rising demand for aviation fuel in Ghana, driven by increasing air travel.

The deal reinforces regional partnerships and cements the Dangote Refinery’s position as a transformative force in Africa’s energy supply chain.
Sources familiar with the matter indicate this could potentially be the first official consignment delivered to a Ghanaian BIDEC.
However, they caution that it is also possible some Dangote products may have entered the Ghanaian market previously, though this cannot be confirmed due to the lack of available data.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, with a capacity to process 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, has been touted as a strategic asset capable of reducing Africa’s reliance on imported petroleum products.
