Deadly storm hits Ashanti Region:15-year-old girl dies in Jarchie

Tragedy struck Jarchie in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region on Thursday, May 17, 2024, when a 15-year-old girl lost her life in a devastating rainstorm.

The community was hit by a deadly lightning attack during the torrential rainfall, causing the girl to collapse and ultimately leading to her death.

According to residents, the storm’s ferocity resulted in the collapse of five houses, with over 200 others suffering severe roof damage.

The Assembly Member for Jarchie East Electoral Area, Richard Bimpeh (Chikata), confirmed the incident in an interview with OTEC News Reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng, highlighting the displacement of hundreds of residents and the destruction of properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

In the aftermath of the disaster, the Assembly Member has made an urgent appeal to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), cooperating organizations, and other state agencies to support the affected individuals and provide necessary assistance to alleviate their suffering.
