President Akufo-Addo has labeled the controversy over SSNIT’s decision to sell its interests in certain hotels to Rock City Hotels, owned by his Agriculture Minister, Bryan Acheampong, as unnecessary.
The sale triggered strong backlash, especially from North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and organized labor, who saw it as a distress sale to a government appointee.

The outcry led to nationwide protests and calls for a shake-up of SSNIT’s board.
However, speaking at the 12th Quadrennial Delegates Congress of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), President Akufo-Addo dismissed the controversy, pointing to SSNIT’s robust financial performance, including a profit of over GH₵230 million in 2023, as evidence against claims of mismanagement.
Although protests forced SSNIT to pause the sale, the President urged Ghanaians to be careful in their pronouncements regarding SSNIT assets.
He called for a more measured discussion on such matters, cautioning that reckless comments could jeopardize SSNIT’s long-term interests. He also highlighted SSNIT’s ongoing efforts to generate profits and expand its operations.
