The government has reassured Ghanaians affected by investment losses due to the debt restructuring program, prompted by the COVID-19-induced economic downturn, that these losses will be recovered by the end of 2026.

This assurance is grounded in expectations of an economic rebound and improvements in key macroeconomic indicators.

At a monthly press briefing, Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adams reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing long-term policies to sustain the recovery.

He expressed confidence that these measures would restore economic stability and facilitate the recovery of investments.

“I have no doubt that within a year or two, those who have lost money will recover it. I know they will be smiling to the bank. It has taken a lot of effort to bring this economy back to where it is now. Many doubted, but I want to reassure you that this recovery is not by chance but through strong policies.”

The Minister also pledged to honor all restructured debts, citing the positive outlook of the economy.

Dr. Amin Adams highlighted the country’s recent impressive economic performance and expressed confidence in meeting financial obligations on time.

He confirmed that the government is on track to settle its Eurobond obligations before the January 2025 maturity date, marking the second consecutive successful payment of obligations, following the $520 million coupon payment in October 2024.

These timely settlements reflect the government’s commitment to maintaining creditworthiness and rebuilding investor confidence amid ongoing economic reforms.

By prioritizing debt service, the administration aims to sustain access to international capital markets and support the broader goal of financial stability and economic recovery.

“Our next coupon payment will be 2nd January, we are ready. We are not going to default, we are ready.”

The Minister added that it will continue with its fiscal consolidation efforts with far-reaching benefits to better the lives of Ghanaians.
