Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, has emphasized the military’s duty to maintain strict political neutrality throughout the upcoming December 2024 elections and beyond.

Speaking at the Republic Day lecture hosted by the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College on Monday, July 1, Nitiwul underscored that the military’s foremost responsibility is to safeguard the nation’s integrity.

He highlighted the vital role of the military in upholding democracy and cautioned against any partisan involvement.

Nitiwul described the military as a crucial guardian of the nation’s hope and warned of the severe consequences if public trust in the armed forces waned due to political affiliations, potentially undermining democratic foundations.

The lecture, attended by distinguished speakers such as Former National Security Minister Mr. Francis Poku and Prof. Kwasi Aning, centered on the essential role of military impartiality in ensuring national security and stability.

Other notable figures, including Madam Josephine Nkrumah, echoed the Minister’s call for the military to operate independently of political influence to effectively fulfill its duties.

This event marks the beginning of a series of public lectures planned by the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, aimed at fostering discussions on critical national security matters in the months ahead.
