Emirates Airlines is due to cease working in the country from Friday, March 20, 2020, whiles Delta Airlines and Brussels Air would bring their activities to a stop on Saturday, March 21, 2020.
KLM and Air France have also initiated measures to considerably reduce flights worldwide and customers of the airlines have been advised to reach out to a particular airline if travel plans have been disrupted.
According to a statement released by the United States’ Embassy in Ghana, the Department of State, as of March 14, 2020, had authorized the departure of US personnel as well as their family members from all diplomatic and consular posts.
Their departure would, however, be subject to the passing of a medical examination in order to determine whether they at a higher risk of or have been exposed to the coronavirus.
The statement went on to say that the Ghanaian government, on Sunday, March 15, 2020, implemented advanced screening and quarantine measures in order to reduce the spread of the virus.
Ghana’s Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, also shed light on a travel advisory that has been issued in the wake of the spread of the coronavirus.
American citizens who are desirous of returning to their country have, therefore, been advised to cooperate with the airlines to facilitate travel arrangements while flights are still available.
The statement gave contact details of relevant bodies that would offer assistance for travellers who may face difficulties.
Meanwhile, Africa’s biggest airline, Ethiopian Airlines, is in the process of cutting down a number of its flights to China.
