One of the leaders of the Democracy Hub protesters, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has been arrested by the police.

His detention follows alleged acts of lawlessness during the demonstration near the 37 Military Hospital, which aimed to address the destructive impact of galamsey activities on the country’s rivers.

A statement from the police indicated that Barker-Vormawor was apprehended for “various unlawful acts he was involved in on Saturday, September 21, and Sunday, September 22, at the 37 intersection in Accra.”

On Sunday, the police announced a manhunt for Barker-Vormawor due to his “unlawful acts” during the protests on Saturday and Sunday.

However, he rejected the police’s claim that he has been hiding.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the activist stated that he has been in regular communication with senior police officers about his whereabouts and availability.

He called the manhunt against him “baseless and misleading.”

The police reported that they have arrested 42 Democracy Hub protesters for participating in an unlawful demonstration, following a court injunction that restricted access to certain routes intended for the protest.
