Coach Desmond Ofei expressed pride in Ghana’s U-20 players despite their narrow defeat to Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, who won 2-1 in the WAFU B U-20 final on Wednesday night at Stade Kegue, Togo.

Although the Black Satellites faced early challenges, they managed to recover and finished as runners-up in the tournament, securing a place in the 2025 U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ofei commended the resilience and determination of his players, stating, “Losing nine key players who were instrumental in our success at the African Games was a major setback.

However, this situation allowed us to develop a new core of young talent, and these boys have risen to the occasion. They truly deserve this qualification.”

Despite falling short in the WAFU B U-20 Championship final, Ofei remained optimistic about his team’s accomplishments. He added, “Qualifying for the U-20 AFCON is a significant achievement, especially given the circumstances.

This team encountered numerous challenges, but their commitment and determination have been remarkable. I take pride in every one of them.”

After missing the 2023 edition, the four-time champions are eager for redemption in the upcoming 2025 AFCON, aiming for their fifth championship title.
