Ghanaian actor John Peasah, popularly known as Drogba from the hit TV series YOLO, has opened up about his distressing experience with Sleep Apnea, which he was recently diagnosed with alongside his Stiff Person Syndrome condition.

Drogba was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome in March of this year and has made numerous hospital visits for medical treatment.
Despite seeking various treatments, he has seen no improvement in his condition and plans to seek medical care abroad.
In an interview on Accra-based Hitz FM, he shared, “Regarding my treatment, I realized that anytime I go to the hospital, I don’t respond to the treatment. That’s when they discovered I’m suffering from Stiff Person Syndrome, and it took them four months to diagnose me.”
He further mentioned, “My neurologist at the Bank Hospital was the one who identified the condition for me. Eventually, Korle-Bu also confirmed the diagnosis.”
“No, it doesn’t work on me. It makes me a bit sleepy and numbs the pain slightly, but it doesn’t have a significant effect.
It was only when the doctor detected signs of Stiff Person Syndrome that we noticed it was working a bit on me,” he said.
In recent weeks, Peasah revealed that he has also been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, a condition linked to his Stiff Person Syndrome. He shared his struggles with Sleep Apnea.
“I initially thought I didn’t have sleep apnea, but I was recently diagnosed with it, and now I have to use a CPAP machine.
The doctors told me that whenever I sleep, I stop breathing for about thirty minutes.
During that time, my heart is the only thing still functioning, and then I come back again,” he noted.
“My case is puzzling because it’s unclear where this is coming from. This is why the doctors are confused—they don’t know what’s going on. Stiff Person Syndrome is notoriously difficult to diagnose,” he added.
