Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as NAPO and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential Candidate, has urged National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama to stop criticizing chiefs, imams, and pastors.

This appeal follows Mahama’s recent comments aimed at these religious and traditional leaders for their support of the NPP instead of their critiques.

During a campaign event in the Ofoase-Juaben constituency on Thursday, NAPO suggested that Mahama’s remarks stem from frustration. He argued that the criticisms are unfounded, as these leaders are being targeted merely for responding positively to calls for prayers and support.

“Mr. Mahama has realized that the NDC has little chance of winning the upcoming elections, so he has redirected his frustration and anger towards innocent people.

He shouldn’t take his frustrations out on chiefs, clergy, imams, and others who have done nothing wrong. Mahama understands the tough battle ahead, yet he is unnecessarily picking fights with these leaders.”

The NPP vice presidential candidate emphasized his commitment to seeking the blessings of chiefs, noting that he will continue to request their support and permission before campaigning in their areas.

“We recognize that the land belongs to our respected chiefs, so I will always seek their permission before we conduct our house-to-house campaigns. I respect our chiefs.”

He affirmed his intention to seek the support of chiefs, imams, and pastors, stating, “If I approach these leaders for their blessings and guidance to help the NPP, I believe that’s the right approach.”

NAPO also criticized Mahama for what he sees as disrespect toward these leaders and urged voters not to support Mahama and the NDC in the upcoming December 7 elections.
