Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s Flagbearer and Vice President, has struck a chord with his message of seeking a chance to transition from a driver’s mate to the main driver.

During his campaign tour in the Oti Region, the people of Dambai, the regional capital, enthusiastically welcomed him with a symbolic gesture – two hands grasping an imaginary steering wheel.

Dr. Bawumia’s engagements in the region included meetings with various groups, such as the Clergy, Imams, Zongo Chiefs, the Oti Regional House of Chiefs, and the youth.

He also engaged in door-to-door and street campaigns, receiving widespread support. Many residents echoed his famous remark, “yε de steer no ama wo” (“we have given you the steering wheel”), with the gesture of two hands controlling a steering wheel becoming a recurring theme throughout his tour.

As the crowd’s enthusiasm grew, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged their support, mirroring their gesture with a smile.

In a heartwarming moment, a young supporter even presented him with a cardboard cutout of a steering wheel, which he gratefully accepted and mimicked the gesture, delighting the onlookers.

The “steering-controlling” sign became a unifying symbol of support as Dr. Bawumia’s bus navigated through Dambai, with many onlookers waving and performing the gesture in solidarity.
