Dr. Paul Opoku-Mensah, Executive Director of the National Cathedral project, has addressed misunderstandings about the initiative, emphasizing that it is not merely a church but a multifaceted development aimed at benefiting Ghana.

He outlined potential advantages, such as generating revenue and promoting Ghana’s cultural heritage on a global stage.

Despite facing significant opposition—largely due to concerns over government involvement and financial transparency—Dr. Opoku-Mensah remains hopeful.

This optimism was bolstered by a recent symposium with TD Jakes’ divinity school, which sought to inform the public about the cathedral’s diverse roles.

The National Cathedral is envisioned as a historic landmark and sacred space for worship, featuring Africa’s first Museum of the Bible, in partnership with the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. Dr. Opoku-Mensah highlighted the project’s broader vision, aiming to connect Ghana with the African diaspora and facilitate a Pan-African community to address theological contributions from the continent.

He commended the efforts of TD Jakes’ divinity school for their engagement with students throughout Africa and reiterated that the cathedral represents critical conversations at national, continental, and global levels, extending beyond the perception of it as just a physical church building.
