IMANI Africa President, Franklin Cudjoe, has raised concerns about the status of the One Village, One Dam initiative, led by NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, amid the ongoing severe drought in the country.

Cudjoe emphasised the urgent need to move away from heavy reliance on rainfall for agriculture and called for the development of robust irrigation systems and adequate storage solutions to safeguard food security during such weather challenges.

In a Facebook post, Cudjoe expressed his worry about potential food shortages due to insufficient rainfall, acknowledging the efforts of the agriculture, finance, and defence ministers in managing the current crisis.

However, he urged for a more resilient and sustainable approach to farming, particularly pointing out the importance of the One Village, One Dam project in enhancing irrigation in rural areas.

He questioned the status of these projects, asking, “Anyway, Dr Bawumia, l recall you aggressively led the campaign for 1 village-1 dam as the best strategy to augment existing irrigation systems. And billions of money was poured into these dams. May I know the status of these dams? When are we expecting them to kick in and help? Thank you.”
