The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) will introduce new vehicle registration number plates by the end of the year, according to the Authority’s Board Chairman, Frank Davies.

These new plates will feature enhanced security elements, as part of broader reforms aimed at ensuring vehicle ownership and road user safety. A key aspect of these reforms is the introduction of securitized license plates.

While Davies acknowledged minor challenges with the implementation of the securitized plates, he confirmed that preparations are well underway, with the policy set to be operational by year’s end.

“We will launch it before we leave office,” announced Frank Davies, Board Chairman of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), referring to the upcoming introduction of new vehicle registration plates.

Additionally, the DVLA has implemented reforms to assist individuals seeking driver’s licenses who are unable to read or write, which previously hindered their ability to take the computer-based test.

According to Deputy CEO in charge of Operations, Prince Opoku Edusei, the test questions and information have been translated into six local languages.

Now, applicants who are unable to read or write will be able to take the test orally, in a language they understand, with the use of headphones.

These reforms are part of the DVLA’s 25-year service upgrade to enhance road safety and customer experience.

Meanwhile, DVLA staff from Accra branches participated in a health walk around the Kotoka International Airport to raise awareness of their services while promoting fitness.

The activity follows a public lecture with stakeholders to discuss the challenges, successes, and future of the institution’s reforms, which aim to better serve the Ghanaian motoring public.
