The Abuakwa South Municipal NADMO Secretariat, led by Municipal Director Aikins Ofori, has initiated a major land reclamation and tree-planting project in collaboration with the Eastern Regional NADMO Secretariat, under the leadership of Hon. Cudjoe Adukpo.

The project began at Akyem-Asiakwa and Kyebi-Asikam, where 1,000 tree seedlings supplied by the Municipal Forestry Commission were planted on former illegal mining sites in an effort to restore degraded lands.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Cudjoe Adukpo stressed the importance of the exercise, describing it as a crucial step toward reviving the municipality’s devastated environment. He also cautioned miners operating along the Birim River to adhere strictly to regulations, warning that a special taskforce would soon be deployed to clamp down on illegal mining activities.

Director Aikins Ofori highlighted the progress made by NADMO in curbing illegal mining in the municipality, reaffirming the directorate’s commitment to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable land use.

The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Hon. Evelyn Korang, Member of the Council of State for the Eastern Region, the Abuakwa South Forestry Commissioner, senior NADMO officials, and traditional leaders such as the Abontidonhene of Kyebi and Kernel Mintah.
