Nkawkaw, Eastern Region – May 14, 2025
Police in the Eastern North Division have arrested two women in a major drug bust in Nkawkaw Ampekrom, following the discovery of over 1,600 slabs of suspected Indian hemp at a private residence.
The operation, which was the culmination of months of surveillance and intelligence gathering, was executed on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. According to the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Isaac Kwadwo Asante, the coordinated effort led officers to a house where the massive haul of suspected narcotics was being stored.

The suspects, identified as Hawa Ibrahim, a 40-year-old landlady, and 30-year-old Latifa Adams, were arrested during the raid. Police say the duo were allegedly using the premises to store and possibly distribute the illegal substance.
Upon searching the premises, officers uncovered 24 maxi bags containing a total of 1,650 compressed slabs of what is believed to be Indian hemp. The value of the seized substances has not yet been disclosed, but authorities describe it as one of the largest seizures in the region this year.

Both suspects are currently in police custody and assisting investigators with further inquiries. They are expected to be arraigned before court once preliminary investigations are concluded.
DCOP Isaac Kwadwo Asante, speaking to the media after the operation, commended his officers for their diligence and warned that the police will continue to crack down on drug-related activities in the region.

“We will not allow criminals to use our communities as safe havens for drug trafficking. The law will deal with anyone involved in such activities, no matter their status,” he emphasized.
Police have called on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to aid in the fight against the illegal drug trade.
