The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the general public that it will re-exhibit the corrected Provisional Voters Register (PVR) online prior to printing the Final Register for the 2024 Elections.

This commitment was outlined in a letter responding to the petition submitted by the NDC following the party’s demonstration on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

The NDC had requested a five-day re-exhibition of the Provisional Voters Register after the completion of the forensic audit.

The Electoral Commission (EC) emphasized that this initiative would allow registered voters, including those impacted by errors, to verify their information and ensure the integrity of the Voters Register. They expressed concern that without such a re-exhibition, many legitimate voters risk disenfranchisement.

In response to the NDC’s demand for a re-exhibition of the Provisional Voters Register (PVR), the EC stated, “While the Commission is not opposed to conducting another physical exhibition of the corrected PVR across the more than 40,000 exhibition centers, the time required to print and distribute the PVR (approximately four weeks) makes this unfeasible given the limited time remaining before the General Election.”

The EC plans to implement an online exhibition of the PVR at no cost to registered voters. Voters will have the opportunity to report discrepancies in their details within a timeframe that will be communicated to the public. The Voters Register will be accessible online until Election Day.

Regarding the NDC’s request for a forensic audit, the EC remarked, “The Commission believes that the established legal and administrative processes for cleaning the PVR have not been fully exhausted to warrant calls for a forensic audit. We urge the public to trust us in fulfilling our mandate.”
