The Electoral Commission (EC) has issued an apology for the technical issues that disrupted the voter registration process on its second day, particularly affecting the online registration mode.
In response to numerous complaints, the EC has taken full responsibility for the setbacks and has instructed its District Officers to commence offline registration starting May 9, 2024.
According to a statement released by the commission on May 8, 2024, “The Commission wishes to inform all stakeholders and the general public that some challenges were experienced with the network this afternoon, affecting the online mode of registration. The Commission has directed its district officers to switch to the offline mode of registration beginning tomorrow, May 9, 2024.”

The EC has reassured the public that measures are being implemented to resolve the issues and has reiterated its commitment to extending the registration period if a backlog occurs due to these network issues.
This ensures that the process will continue beyond the initial May 27, 2024, deadline if necessary. The commission has apologized for the delays experienced and is working to ensure a smooth registration process.
