Fred Tetteh, Deputy Director of Research at the Electoral Commission (EC), has confirmed that the Commission is ready to finalize the collation of parliamentary results for Ablekuma North. This comes after the process was suspended due to security concerns.

Following a High Court order on January 4, 2025, the EC was instructed to resume the collation and declare the winners of four unresolved parliamentary elections. While the collation for Ablekuma North began on January 8, 2025, it was halted due to incomplete results from three polling stations. The EC had scheduled to continue the process on January 17, 2025, but the Ghana Police Service advised postponement based on security intelligence.

In a statement issued on January 17, the EC clarified that the police had not enhanced security at the collation centers, allowing party supporters to disrupt the process.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Tetteh assured that the Commission is now prepared to complete the collation of the remaining three polling stations. He added that the EC had implemented proactive measures to ensure the smooth completion of the process.

“What we have done because it is our constitutional mandate to have this thing completed is that we’ve written to the police to provide security for us because we don’t want what happened on the 17th January to reoccur.

“We are just waiting for the police to provide us security, then we can go ahead with those three polling stations. The results are ready for us to just add up and declare the winner,” Tetteh explained.

However he denied knowledge of the matter being in court as indicated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
