The Electoral Commission (EC) has disqualified Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, from running in the 2024 general elections.

This decision follows an appeal made by Cudjoe to the EC after a petition was submitted to prevent her participation in the upcoming December 7 poll.

The EC cited a pending lawsuit regarding her candidacy, which has not been stayed or vacated, emphasizing that it is obligated to adhere to the existing court order.

In a letter, the EC stated, “You have been disqualified from standing as a candidate for election to Parliament in your Constituency.”

Cudjoe’s legal representatives, Ayine and Associates, highlighted in an October 15 letter that she is still the NDC’s duly elected candidate.

Joana Gyan Cudjoe had previously been barred by the Sekondi High Court in May 2024 from asserting her status as the party’s candidate due to allegations of forging her voter ID and NDC party card.

The lawsuit was filed by five individuals: Gyedu Frimpong, Akubilla Daniel, Enock Ntiamoh, Isaac Twum, and Doris Aidoo, who named Cudjoe, the NDC, and the Electoral Commission as respondents.
