Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch), an education think tank, has strongly condemned a viral video showing a student from Accra Academy Senior High School using a cutlass to flog two of his peers.

The disturbing footage led to swift action from the school’s management, which issued a statement outlining the steps taken to address the incident and ensure order.

In a Facebook post, Eduwatch’s Executive Director, Kofi Asare, criticized the violent act and commended the school management for involving law enforcement in the investigation.

“I condemn the violence at Accra Academy. I am pleased that school authorities have involved the police to handle this criminal act,” Asare said.

Accra Academy Senior High School confirmed that the student responsible for the assault has been handed over to the police for further investigation. The video, which surfaced on social media, shows a student brutally flogging two others with a machete.

The victims, first-year students Samuel Ussher, Kingsford Quayson, Stephen Oteng, and Dominic Awuku Adjei, were allegedly attacked by final-year students Haleem Jibril, Ahmed Dauda, and Richard Ninsin, along with first-year student Shadad Aliu.

According to the school’s management, preliminary investigations revealed that the machete was brought from home, not taken from school premises.

All students involved, identified as day students, have been asked to stay away from school pending further investigation.
