The Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has reiterated his dedication to serving his constituents despite losing his re-election bid in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking to Channel One News on Monday, December 16, as Parliament reconvened at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, Egyapa Mercer affirmed his commitment to fulfilling his mandate until the end of his tenure.

“My presence here certainly throws those arguments into the gutter of those assertions. I lost the election for the 9th Parliament, but I am still a member of the 8th Parliament representing the good people of Sekondi, and I am here to do my job,” he stated.

Responding to questions about attendance from the majority side, he added, “I don’t know who is coming or not coming, but Parliament is resuming today, and I have come. I expect everybody else will attend.”

Egyapa Mercer, who also serves as the Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, lost his seat to Blay Nyameke Armah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in a closely contested race. Despite the defeat, he remains focused on completing his duties as MP for Sekondi.
