The Ejisu constituency by-election in the Ashanti region, has been officially scheduled by the Electoral Commission (EC) for April 30, 2024.
This scheduling comes after the unfortunate passing of Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, a Member of Parliament (MP) and Deputy Finance Minister, on March 7, 2024.
Dr. Kumah passed away following a brief illness.
All nine candidates successfully submitted their bids before the deadline, which ran from Tuesday, April 2, 2024, to Thursday, April 4.
In the meantime, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled its primary for April 13, 2024, with the goal of choosing one candidate from a pool of nine contenders.

The declaration occurred at a gathering of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) on Tuesday, April 9.
The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, has subsequently announced its decision to abstain from the election.
Referring to financial constraints and other resource considerations, the party emphasized its primary focus on the upcoming December 7 general elections, which are less than 8 months away.
