On the eve of the April 30, 2024, Ejisu by-election, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held a grand finale rally, drawing a massive crowd of supporters and high-profile dignitaries.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the NPP candidate, lawyer Kwabena Boateng, addressed the enthusiastic gathering through strategically placed loudspeakers.

The rally’s highlight was the impassioned speeches delivered by the president, vice president, and the NPP candidate, urging supporters to turn out in force and vote to retain the seat the party has held since 2020. The seat became vacant following the demise of John Kumah in March.

Interestingly, a video shared by Accra-based Starr FM revealed a power plant deployed at the rally grounds, reportedly as a contingency measure against power outages (dumsor).

The plant was spotted in an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) truck parked nearby. While it’s unclear if the plant was utilized during the event, its presence raised eyebrows.

GhanaWeb notes that parts of the country have been grappling with recurring power outages, with households and businesses expressing frustration over the lack of a published timetable by ECG. Despite assurances from the government that the issue will soon be resolved, the situation remains a pressing concern.
