Felix Kwakye Ofosu, an aide to John Dramani Mahama, the NDC flagbearer, has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of calling for a debate as a desperate attempt to salvage their declining electoral chances.

This accusation follows President Akufo-Addo’s assertion that Mahama is avoiding a debate with Dr. Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In an interview with Eyewitness News on Wednesday, October 16, Kwakye Ofosu dismissed the debate challenge as a mere political maneuver.

He contended that the NPP’s request for a debate is hypocritical, noting that neither the president nor the vice president has previously expressed a genuine interest in such discussions.

“It is obvious that both President Akufo-Addo and Bawumia are aware that they are the trailing parties in this election and that they are on their way to receiving a humiliating defeat in the election. So, they are desperately begging for a debate in the hopes that it would revive their fortunes.

“Otherwise, they better believe that people who have never believed in debates would not be calling for a debate every minute they get. So, in a nutshell, President Mahama and the NDC are not going to waste their time on people who will behave hypocritically, who are unprincipled and choose and pick when they show up for a debate,” he stated.
