The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has claimed that approximately 243,000 names were improperly added to the 2024 provisional voters register.

The NDC leadership expressed concerns about discrepancies in the provisional register shared with political parties and has requested a meeting with the Electoral Commission (EC) to address these issues.

Tanko Rashid-Computer, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, alleged in an interview with Citi FM that the EC included around 243,000 names on the 2024 transfer list under questionable conditions.

He argued that such irregularities are difficult for ordinary voters to detect, as they typically only verify their own details rather than scrutinize the entire list for major errors.

“Voters go back to check their names and details for minor corrections, they are not checking for a pardon of data. No voter goes to the polling station to check the total number of people registered or transfers happening and so what the EC is saying is that we can describe them as confident tricksters because most people do not understand what we are saying.

“We are saying that we have uncovered 243,000 plus of added data of 2020 to 2023 transfer data to this year’s transfer [list], thereby bloating the number so if you look at their transfer folder.

“They are having about 566,000 transfers which didn’t exist during the transfer window because if you look at the transfer window as it happened, we realised that we had about 367,000 transfer folders so when you take that one from what they have declared, you are seeing a difference of 243,000.”
