In the 2024 election, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has promised that his administration will focus on agriculture and strengthen food security if he wins.

Dr. Bawumia outlined that his plan includes substantial support for farmers, particularly through the adoption of mechanized farming practices.

He emphasized that establishing district-level mechanized farming resource pool centers would be central to his strategy, providing essential support to farmers, boosting productivity, and ensuring a sustainable food supply nationwide.

He made these statements while speaking to stakeholders in Ada.

“I still believe that we as an agricultural country and any government will have to pay attention to agriculture and fishing in our economy; that is what drives an economy. 60% of our population in the north, south, east and west, is engaged in agriculture and fishing.

“So, this is where I want to focus, to bring technology to add to our farmers, bring loans to add to them so that they can expand their production to make sure that they can obtain [equipment] that will allow them to do farming on large scale bases so that we can to bring food prices down and ensure food security,” he stated.
