The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced it will refund the filing fees of all disqualified presidential candidates for the 2024 elections.
Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the EC, made this announcement during a press briefing in Accra on Friday, September 20, 2024.

This decision comes after several candidates were disqualified from the upcoming December 7, 2024, presidential race.
In a communiqué issued the same day, the EC confirmed that notable figures such as Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Janet Nabla of the People’s National Party (PNP) were among those disqualified.
Other affected aspirants include Nana Stephens Adjepong, Paul Perkoh, James Kwesi Oppong, John Enyonam Kwakwu Kpikpi, Dr. Samuel Sampong Ankrah, and Nii Amu Darko, as well as Samuel Apea-Danquah, Desmond Abrefah, and Kofi Asamoah-Siaw of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).
Meanwhile, the EC has confirmed 13 candidates who will participate in the 2024 presidential elections, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), along with independent candidate Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar.
The EC’s decision to refund filing fees provides a small consolation to the disqualified aspirants as the presidential race intensifies ahead of the December polls.
