The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has dismissed the possibility of a runoff in the upcoming December general elections, expressing full confidence that the party will secure a first-round victory.

In an interview on The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV, Mr. Kwetey emphasized the party’s optimism about its chances in the presidential race.

However, he noted that while the NDC remains hopeful, the final outcome will ultimately be determined by the choice of the Ghanaian electorate.

“We’re confident we are going to win by the first round. But at the end of the day, it’s always left in the hands of the people of Ghana.”Tourism packages

Kwetey acknowledged that although the Electoral Commission (EC) has not met their expectations, he remains confident in their ability to secure a victory.

He also pointed out the difficulties that have delayed special voting in the Western and Eastern regions.

“We have no options really, and that is a bit of a sad thing to say. The Jean Mensa electoral commission has touted itself as being what we call the best so far in our history and the evidence doesn’t show that they have been the best.

“Apart from the issues we have had with them that have not to do with their ability to do this job very independently and neutral basis as we have seen in the past with Afari Gyan and also with Charlotte Osei [former EC bosses].

“We have questions about even the composition of the leadership of the EC. There have been genuine issues about competence. To the extent that you have done special voting and two big regions have had to postpone. The hitches have been there which means they have not been on top of the job. They have not done it well.”
