Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has promised that Ghana will soon start producing essential materials for railway construction, including concrete slabs, locally.

Bawumia made this announcement during a campaign visit to the Afigya Sekyere East constituency in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, November 6.
In his remarks, he revealed that his team is working closely with the University of Mines and Technology to explore ways of manufacturing railway infrastructure materials within Ghana.
He highlighted the goal of reducing the country’s reliance on imports and stimulating local industries.
“We will develop the railway from Accra to Kumasi. We will look for investors who will come in to assist us complete the railway, which is one of my major visions for the transformation of Ghana.
“I have engaged with a team in UMaT to come up with a means of producing concrete slubs, the steel rail and all the materials to be used for the railway right here in Ghana.
“I am surprised that we import concrete slubs from China. We are not going to import again when I come. We have the technology, we have the skills. When we are developing the railway, it will generate a lot of jobs, but the material must be produced here,” he stated.
