Members of the Zongo Vote Campaigners, a pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group, have called on the party’s leadership to conduct a thorough review of voter apathy, which they believe contributed to the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections.

The group expressed concern over the significant low voter turnout in key NPP strongholds, particularly in the Ashanti and Eastern regions, and stressed that the party should focus on identifying the root causes rather than engaging in blame games.

At a news conference in Kumasi on December 12, the group’s Secretary, Alhaji Abdul Mumin Castro, emphasized the importance of a stocktaking exercise by the party leadership.

He urged the NPP to assess the factors that led to the voter disengagement and make necessary recommendations for future elections.

Despite the defeat, the group reaffirmed its unwavering support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s 2024 Presidential Candidate.

The group also commended Dr Bawumia for conceding defeat to the President-Elect, John Dramai Mahama, and accepting the presidential election results in good faith.

Alhaji Castro further said, “You have demonstrated a sense of patriotism over individualism. It showcases your humility, maturity, and civility. This is indeed a dignifying act worthy of emulation in the interest of democratic consolidation.”
