Transport operators in the Volta Region have made preparations to support the smooth transportation of people during the upcoming 2024 elections. They have arranged for drivers to facilitate movement across various locations, ensuring voters can easily reach polling stations.
The unions have urged their drivers to avoid engaging in partisan politics while on duty, to prevent any disruptions to services and maintain order during the election period.

Gabriel Fiankor, Chairman of the Cooperative Drivers Association in Ho, stated that while their drivers will not participate in the special voting on December 2, they will be available on December 7 to transport passengers to polling stations.
“We are not part of the special voters, but our drivers will vote at their respective centers and return to work. This will not affect our operations as most of our drivers vote here at the station,” Fiankor said.

He further advised drivers to refrain from engaging in political discussions or activities while working, as it could lead to tensions and disrupt their services. He called for professionalism to ensure a peaceful and safe election season.
In addition, the Ghana Police Service has assured the public of tight security measures before, during, and after the election, including routine checks to maintain safety and a smooth electoral process.

“We have advised our drivers not to engage in political arguments when driving and we also caution passengers to limit their political talks during the journey. We value the lives we carry so we have to warn both drivers and passengers”
The Tricycle Riders Association also indicated that they will be providing free services on Election Day for voters.
Francis Alaga, regional chairman for the National Union for Tricycle Operators, said, they have been provided with fuel by some political parties and other institutions to enable them to provide free services to the residents.
“Some leaders from NDC are providing us with fuel so we carry people to their various polling stations without taking any money from them. The union is so happy because we want to assist in this election. We are using 250 tricycles”, he stated.
