The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has announced that it will host the first presidential debate on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, in Accra, as part of the lead-up to Ghana’s general elections.

This debate will mark the beginning of a series of discussions aimed at enhancing democratic engagement.

Following the presidential debate, a vice-presidential debate is scheduled for November 5 in Accra, with a second presidential debate planned for November 19 in Kumasi.

The IEA emphasized that these debates are crucial for Ghana’s democratic process, as they promote accountability, ease political tensions, educate voters, and encourage greater participation in the electoral process.

The organization underscores the importance of these initiatives as the country approaches the 2024 elections.

“As Ghana gears up for the 2024 elections, the continuation of these activities will be crucial in strengthening the country’s democracy and ensuring that the voices of the people are heard,” the statement emphasized.

The IEA will host five evening encounters leading up to the debates.

The first two encounters are set for September 18 and 24, with the third, fourth, and fifth encounters scheduled for October 1, 8, and 15, 2024, respectively.
