John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for avoiding discussions on economic challenges in their 2024 campaign.

He pointed to the government’s failure to fulfill promises made to the Ghanaian people and highlighted the weak state of the economy, particularly the exchange rate, as evidence of the ruling party’s shortcomings.

During the “Enti Asanteman Aseda Ni” walk in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Mahama expressed concern over the collapse of businesses, attributing it to the poor economic performance under the NPP administration.

He stated that these economic difficulties have left the NPP struggling to address crucial issues in their campaign messaging.

“You confirm from every Ashanti businessman, that their businesses have collapsed. They are unable to clear their goods from Tema Port. The majority rather use Lome Port in Togo and use trucks to get them to Ghana.

“They have collapsed all the employment opportunities for the youth. They collapsed almost two hundred Microfinance companies. Some of the workers are now Uber drivers, others are baking bread.

“10, 000 people lost their jobs as a result of the 11 banks that they collapsed. How then will you believe such a person when he tells you he will create employment when he comes to power? They can’t talk about the economy in their campaign messages again.

“The fundamentals are weak and the foreign exchange is exposing them”, he stated.
