The NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has promised to address the significant developmental issues faced by the residents of Savelugu in the Northern Region if he is elected in the upcoming elections.

During his visit to the Yoo Naa’s Palace on the third day of his campaign in the Northern Region, Mahama assured the people of Savelugu that he would tackle challenges like water scarcity, poor road conditions, and other infrastructure deficits in the area.

He also committed to enhancing the Pong Tamale Veterinary College by affiliating it with the University for Development Studies (UDS) to improve its status and broaden educational opportunities.

Mahama emphasized that his administration would focus on enhancing the lives of Savelugu residents, promising better governance and development in key sectors if he wins on December 7.

“It is my hope that the people of Ghana will vote the NDC back into power to continue the progress we were making. I am aware of the various issues facing the people of Savelugu. Water scarcity is a significant concern.

Additionally, we need to improve the road network, the market, and the Pong Tamale Veterinary College, among other challenges that the NDC will address.

“We will resolve the water issues. We plan to affiliate the Pong Tamale Veterinary College with the University for Development Studies to upgrade the facility and increase student enrollment. Furthermore, we aim to enhance the Savelugu vocational school so that our youth can gain vocational skills and earn certificates,” he stated.

In response, Yaa Naa Abdullai Yakubu Andani expressed concern over the current state of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy. He highlighted that the long breaks students face, along with shorter school terms, have created difficulties for parents.

He urged Mahama to reform the Free SHS system to provide students with more classroom time, thus improving the quality of education.

The Yaa Naa also called for enhancements in healthcare, water supply, and road infrastructure to alleviate the hardships faced by Savelugu residents.

“Regarding schools, we as parents are not satisfied with the current situation. Children spend only about a month in school before being home for three months, which places a heavy burden on parents.

We appeal to H.E. John Dramani Mahama to review the Free SHS system to ensure that students spend longer periods in school,” he said.
