Apostle Eric Nyamekye, President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), has called on political leaders to be cautious with their language as the 2024 General Elections approach.

He noted that political figures often make statements impulsively or out of excitement, which can be easily misinterpreted by supporters and may incite violence.

Apostle Nyamekye made these comments during a closed-door meeting organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the GPCC as part of the 2024 Election Stakeholder Consultative visits.

Additionally, NCCE Chairperson Kathleen Addy urged religious leaders to avoid preaching messages that foster division and intolerance among the public.

“As a country, we all know that this is not where we want to go to. That is not the direction of progress we want to take. We want to live together in peace and there is nothing new because we have done that.

“We are on record and we have a reputation as a country for living together in peace and having a peaceful existence among the faith.

We just want to ensure that political power into election will not begin to destroy the peace and cordiality that has characterised how we’ve lived in this country,” she stated.
