Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, the Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reassured the National Peace Council of the party’s commitment to ensuring peaceful elections on December 7.
He emphasized the NPP’s dedication to democratic principles and peace during a meeting with the Eminent Persons Group of the Christian Council of Ghana in Accra.

During the engagement, which is part of ongoing discussions with political parties ahead of the 2024 elections, Dr. Opoku-Prempeh highlighted the NPP’s track record of upholding the rule of law.
He pointed to the party’s conduct during the 2008 elections as evidence of its dedication to peace and democratic accountability.
He assured the Christian Council that the NPP would respect the democratic process throughout the elections, stating, “The party is committed to democratic procedures before, during, and after the elections.” He also underscored the importance of the electorate’s role in determining their leaders.
Dr. Opoku-Prempeh reiterated that the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, along with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the party’s campaign team, have been actively engaging with voters to promote democratic values and ensure peace.
NPP National Chairman, Stephen Ayensu Ntim, reinforced the party’s history of advocating for peace, dating back to Ghana’s return to democracy in 1992.
He highlighted the NPP’s commitment to non-violent reforms when addressing electoral concerns and assured the public that the party would accept the election results, win or lose.
In response, the Christian Council, led by Rev. Enoch Thompson, commended the NPP’s strong stance on the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) and its efforts to promote responsible mining.
Rev. Thompson reaffirmed the Council’s support for the government’s efforts to combat galamsey and called for ongoing dialogue with political stakeholders, including the NDC, to ensure a peaceful election.
