The vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has assured Ghanaians that the next NDC government will prioritize agriculture as a cornerstone of the nation’s development, making the sector lucrative and vibrant for all stakeholders.

Addressing enthusiastic supporters in Walewale during her campaign tour of the Northeast Region on Wednesday, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that the NDC’s agricultural agenda is designed to ensure food security, reduce unemployment, and increase productivity across the country.

She revealed that one of the flagship initiatives of the next NDC government would be the establishment of Farmers Service Centres in every district.

These centres, she explained, would provide farmers with access to modern agricultural tools, such as tractors and ploughing equipment, at affordable rates.

By reducing the burden of manual labor and enhancing mechanized farming, these centres would boost food production, ensuring a steady supply of affordable produce for both local consumption and export.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang lamented the lack of progress on critical projects such as the Pwalugu Dam, which she noted had been promised by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration years ago.

Despite spending millions of dollars and holding high-profile sod-cutting ceremonies, the government has failed to deliver on this project, which could have provided significant irrigation and flood control benefits to farmers in the region.

She further criticized the government for its handling of the education sector, pointing out misplaced priorities such as the purchase of past questions for students instead of investing in textbooks and other essential learning materials.

According to her, these decisions demonstrate the government’s inability to address the real needs of the country’s education system.

Highlighting the broader impact of the government’s mismanagement, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang argued that all sectors of the economy, including agriculture, education, and health, have suffered severe setbacks under the current administration.

She stressed that it is critical for Ghanaians to vote for change in the upcoming December 7 elections to restore hope and confidence in leadership.

The NDC’s agricultural vision, she added, is part of a broader agenda to create jobs, empower youth, and build a self-reliant economy driven by local production and innovation.

With the implementation of well-thought-out policies, she assured supporters that the NDC would work tirelessly to rebuild the country and provide opportunities for all citizens.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang concluded by urging voters to rally behind the NDC to bring about a government that is accountable, responsive, and dedicated to addressing the challenges facing ordinary Ghanaians.
