John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for plunging Ghana’s economy into debt.

Speaking to party supporters at Amanfrom during phase 2 of his Greater Accra regional campaign, Mahama emphasized that the NPP cannot evade responsibility for the poor state of Ghana’s economy.
He also pointed out that the situation could be even worse if Ghana had already begun repaying its debts, which he noted would start in 2025 under a new government.
“They [NPP] cannot escape blame for the mess they’ve created. They’ve saddled Ghanaians with massive debt, and the only reason the Cedi is relatively stable is because we aren’t repaying debts this year.
Debt repayment begins next year when a new government takes over. Even without repaying debts, the Cedi is depreciating every week, now exceeding GH¢16 and still falling.”
Mahama further remarked that if managing the economy were an exam, Ghanaians would have given the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a failing grade.
“Recently, I heard the flagbearer of the NPP, the vice president, saying that he has performed excellently as vice president so they should promote him to president. And I said, I don’t know who marked his script and whether he marked it himself, but I can tell him that when it comes to his performance, the mark that the people of Ghana will give him for management of the economy is F, fail.
“The mark that the people of Ghana will give him for management of the economy is F. F means fail. Because when it comes to the economy, they failed completely, absolutely. And they cannot escape blame for where they have landed us.”
