The Ghana Police Service has launched a National Security Elections Task Force Briefing Centre to provide continuous updates throughout the election period.

This initiative is aimed at combating misinformation and disinformation while addressing potential incidents of violence.

During a briefing, Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, disclosed that the police are working with telecommunication companies to assign dedicated contact numbers.

These numbers will be shared with the media to facilitate direct communication with the Police Management Board (POMAB) during the elections.

This arrangement is designed to ensure the timely reporting of incidents for prompt and effective action.

“We are currently working with the Telcos to assign us a dedicated number that will be used in this room. We will share that with you and among all the political parties and stakeholders so that wherever you find yourself, once there’s a situation that is not being managed well, you can call that number and access me directly and any of the commissioners and team members on the ground.

“We are going to use an engagement approach to manage the situation by bringing on board all the stakeholders at a very high level”

Dr. Dampare also assured the public that all security concerns before, during, and after the elections will be handled strategically to guarantee a peaceful process.

“A lot of thinking is going into this process. We are trying to look at all the possible issues that can bring problems and find a very peaceful mechanism to resolving them in a manner that will enable us to ensure that at the end of the day, the way any misunderstanding will be resolved to the satisfaction of everybody will not lead to any violence”

The Ghana Police Service has pledged to take decisive action against individuals who incite or engage in violence before, during, and after the December polls.

The Police emphasised that holding perpetrators accountable would serve as a deterrent to others and help safeguard the peace and stability of the country.
