Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, has promised that Ghana will start manufacturing solar panels if the party wins the upcoming elections.

As detailed in the NPP’s manifesto, the party aims to generate 2,000 MW of solar energy to lower electricity costs.

Speaking during a campaign event in Tema East, Dr. Bawumia highlighted that his administration would focus on local solar panel production to strengthen the energy sector and create jobs for Ghanaians.

He stated, “I plan to introduce a policy to reduce energy costs for everyone. We will establish factories to produce solar panels domestically rather than importing them, which will generate employment and provide us with the expertise to potentially export to other countries.”

Dr. Bawumia also outlined his ‘Buy Ghana First Policy,’ designed to prioritize locally produced goods and services.

“I also want to help businesses create jobs for our youth. The jobs are very important.

So, I have a policy I have termed ‘Buy Ghana First Policy’ So, whatever the government will buy, by law; we are going to pass a law, you have to first in Ghana. If we don’t have it here then you can look elsewhere.

“If it’s about uniforms, we have the tailors. If it’s about furniture, we have the carpenters.

Anything we have to buy, we first look for it and buy it here in Ghana,” he added.
