The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has firmly asserted that any political party in power must honor the will of the people and relinquish power when the time comes, as stipulated by the national constitution.
Addressing an audience in Tamale, Bagbin emphasized that the constitution entrusts power to the people, and their decisions at the polls must be respected.

“Those who claim they will not hand over power will have no choice but to comply, as the Constitution mandates it, and the authority ultimately lies with the people,” he stated.
His comments follow recent declarations from some leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including the Agriculture Minister, Bryan Acheampong, who suggested that the NPP would not hand over power to the opposition NDC.
