Akua Donkor, the presidential candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has criticized the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for what she calls attempts to undermine the Electoral Commission’s efforts leading up to the 2024 general elections.

Speaking at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, she praised the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, for the ‘exceptional’ work she and her team have accomplished in managing the electoral process.
Donkor further explained that the EC provided mechanisms during the voter registration process for challenging anyone deemed ineligible, but the NDC failed to utilize this opportunity and later claimed that the register was inaccurate.
“I thank God that my daughter has become the Electoral Commissioner; she is also like a mother to me because she leads us. Since she took on the role, she has constantly faced frustration from the NDC.
“They even took her to court during the voter registration process, but they were embarrassed in the end. The EC asked me to ensure that my people acted as observers during the voter registration to promote transparency.
“I organised them, and we went through the process smoothly, without any issues. The EC even provided challenge forms to report any discrepancies that might arise during the registration.
“So, why are you making things difficult for us? Don’t you realise that she was appointed by God? Whatever you try, you will not succeed. I pray that your plans against her will not prevail. She is a remarkable woman, and I commend you, Jean Mensa, and your deputies for your work.
“All the accusations you’ve made are not based on facts. Show us where the discrepancies in the register are,” she stated.
