On May 28, the Electoral Commission (EC) met with the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to outline the procedures for the 2024 special voting exercise, scheduled for December 2, 2024.
EC Chair Jean Mensa held a press conference to elaborate on the measures taken to ensure a seamless special voting process.
To participate, applicants must submit their applications directly to the returning officer in their constituency, where they are registered voters.

Group applications from institutions must include the names of officers, Voter ID, and polling station codes to facilitate verification by the returning officer. In-person applications are mandatory.
The EC emphasized the importance of replacing lost or misplaced Voter ID cards during the exercise to ensure accurate registration.
Special voting is designed for eligible voters who will be unable to vote at their registered polling stations on December 7, 2024, primarily covering personnel from security and public service sectors.
The eligible groups for special voting include the Ghana Armed Forces, National Intelligence Bureau, National Security, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Information Services Department, National Ambulance Service, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Prisons Service, Ghana Journalists Association, Ghana Police Service, and the National Media Commission.
