In a historic victory, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, has won the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, breaking the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) long-standing dominance in the area.

The results, announced late Sunday night after a fiercely contested election, revealed Akurugu securing 51,634 votes, narrowly defeating NPP’s Mike Oquaye Jr., who garnered 50,477 votes.
This win marks a significant milestone for the NDC, as it is the first time the party has claimed the Dome-Kwabenya seat, traditionally a stronghold of the NPP.
Akurugu’s victory is part of a broader trend in the 2024 elections, with the NPP losing key constituencies such as Adansi Asokwa, Sekondi, and others to the NDC.
