Nana Ohene Ntow, Special Advisor to Alan Kyerematen, the flagbearer of the Movement for Change, has called for the end of the political duopoly in Ghana.

Ntow made this appeal following the 2024 elections, where, despite extensive campaigning, the Movement for Change and other smaller parties failed to secure even 1% of the vote.

In contrast, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) garnered 41.81% of the vote, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured 56.55% in 262 out of 276 constituencies, despite growing dissatisfaction with both major parties.

In an interview with JoyNews, Ntow voiced concern that Ghanaians’ continued support for the NPP and NDC reflects a reluctance to consider alternative political options, a trend he believes hinders the country’s political progress.

“Looking at the stronghold of the two main parties, anyone entering this contest must recognize that they are up against two giants.

“With time, Ghanaians will come to realize that it is not just about a party and the conversation will shift to focusing on the leader,” he concluded.
