The Civic Forum Initiative (CFI), composed of key Civil Society Organisations, including the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the police to ensure that the NDC’s planned demonstration against the Electoral Commission (EC) over the voters’ register is both peaceful and lawful.

In a statement issued on Monday, the CFI appealed:
“We urge the NDC and all protest organizers to ensure that these demonstrations remain peaceful and lawful.
The safety of all Ghanaians must be the top priority, and any actions that could incite violence or unrest must be avoided at all costs.”
The CFI also called on the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies, under the direction of the Police Command, to collaborate with protest organizers to manage the demonstrations peacefully.
“It is essential that the right to protest is protected while safeguarding public order,” the statement added.
Furthermore, the CFI stressed that the integrity of the voters’ register goes beyond political concerns, stating, “This is a matter of protecting the democratic rights of every Ghanaian citizen.”
They urged the EC to act swiftly and transparently in finalizing the register, as this step is vital in maintaining public confidence in its role.
