The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has revealed that award-winning dancehall artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has not been able to provide credible proof of ownership for a Lamborghini Urus luxury vehicle in his possession.
In an official statement issued on Thursday, August 21, EOCO said Shatta Wale initially claimed he acquired the vehicle from “the Street,” suggesting that the supposed seller might be an individual known only as “ZAK,” who allegedly contacted him through WhatsApp. The musician admitted, however, that he has no knowledge of the seller’s true identity and no longer has access to the WhatsApp contact through which the transaction was conducted.
Investigations further revealed that Shatta Wale could not produce any valid ownership documents, such as a purchase receipt, sales agreement, or transfer of ownership records. The only document he presented to investigators was a customs declaration form, which, according to EOCO, bears the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah an individual currently serving a prison sentence.
The development has sparked widespread reactions among fans of the musician, with scores of supporters reportedly massing up at EOCO’s offices to demand his release. The incident has also dominated discussions on social media, with some fans defending the artiste while others have raised questions about accountability and transparency among celebrities flaunting luxury assets.
Shatta Wale was earlier granted bail in the sum of GHS 10 million with two sureties in connection with ongoing investigations into both the vehicle ownership dispute and alleged tax compliance breaches. EOCO clarified that his release is contingent on meeting all legal requirements.
His media manager, Samuel Atuobi Baah, popularly known as Sammy Flex, confirmed in a video update that Shatta Wale’s management and legal team are working around the clock to finalize the bail process. He appealed for calm among the fanbase, assuring supporters that the team is “doing everything possible” to secure the artiste’s freedom in the coming days.
Shatta Wale, one of Ghana’s most prominent musicians, is known for his flamboyant lifestyle and open display of wealth, often using luxury cars and properties as symbols of his success. His current legal troubles, however, have cast a spotlight on the scrutiny of celebrity finances and the enforcement of financial accountability laws in Ghana.
