Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has commended the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for what he describes as EOCO’s remarkable transformation and exceptional performance, noting that the agency has recovered GH₵337.4 million—well above its initial 2025 target of GH₵200 million.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, December 18, Dr. Ayine attributed EOCO’s success to strong institutional leadership, emphasizing that effective leadership is critical to the success of government institutions.

According to the Attorney General, the combined leadership of President John Mahama and EOCO has instilled integrity in the agency, enabling it to execute its statutory functions optimally.

“EOCO has exceeded its 2025 target which was set at 200 million. Recoveries currently stand at 337.4 million. This figure means that it has exceeded its 2025 recovery by over 133.4 million. This is the highest recovery in the history of the agency,” he stated.

He also revealed that EOCO’s investigations had recovered assets worth USD 15 million from a fraudulent Malaysian company.

Dr. Ayine explained that part of these funds will be used to compensate victims of the offshore crypto fraud perpetrated by the Malaysian company against unsuspecting Ghanaians, while the larger portion will be transferred to the public treasury.

“Through very complex, groundbreaking investigations conducted, EOCO has recovered USD15.191 million. Some of that money will go to pay victims that were defrauded but a greater part of the money will be retained and paid into the public kitty,” he added.
